Moya Ryan - Profile

Name: Moya Ryan

Date of Birth: 25/03/1998

Home Club: An Droichead Badminton Club, Co Clare/ BI Academy

Underage achievements up to U19: I have won national titles at U13, U15 and U17 in all three disciplines. As part of the Irish underage national team, I have won medals in the U15 Quadrangular competition, U17 Barcelona Open and U19 Hellas Open. I also represented Ireland at the European U19 Championships 2015. I have won multiple provincial senior titles in Ireland.

Things you love about badminton: I love the hard work and training for badminton and seeing the progression and development in my game. Badminton is a fast and exciting sport to play and I enjoy the tactical challenge of how to overcome opponents but most of all I just love being on court enjoying playing the sport.

Things that drive you nuts: I hate being late or unprepared for anything, and having my sleep disturbed. I’m also a bit of a clean freak and dislike mess or untidiness!

Studying where & what: I am currently studying Physical Education with Biology in Dublin City University.

One thing no one knows about you: When I was 2, and asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I replied “I want to be a pear.” I also enjoyed Irish Dancing and won a Munster title when I was young.

Badminton dreams: I am currently training towards my goal of winning a medal at European U19 Championships 2017. I hope to soon achieve my first senior cap for Ireland. The harder I work, I hope to keep achieving and to keep moving onwards and upwards, and who knows what can happen.
